Course Description:

This session provides a focused review of functional status Quality Measures with emphasis on ADL coding accuracy and its impact on quality outcomes, Five-Star ratings, and reimbursement. Participants will examine how functional decline and improvement measures are calculated, common MDS coding pitfalls, and the role of interdisciplinary documentation in supporting accurate reporting. Practical strategies will be shared to help facilities strengthen functional outcomes while maintaining compliance.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe how functional status Quality Measures are defined and calculated
  2. Identify common ADL coding and documentation errors
  3. Explain the relationship between functional outcomes, Five-Star ratings, and reimbursement
  4. Apply practical strategies to improve functional QM performance

  • 15 min: ADL and Section GG coding essentials and common errors
  • 15 min: Documentation expectations and IDT roles
  • 10 min: QM calculation logic and Five-Star impact
  • 10 min: Case examples, audit insights, and Q&A
