Course Description:

Facilities are now a year into implementation of the 4/28/25 CMS Appendix PP regulatory revisions.  This session will assist the Nursing Leader to verify that they have all of the required components in place to address Discharge regulations pertaining to residents who leave Against Medical Advice (AMA).  Emphasis will be placed on assessments for AMA risk, communication of AMA events, and essential documentation to support facility compliance with the 2025 regulatory revisions.

Learning Objectives

  1. Understand the components of the regulatory requirements for Discharge Against Medical Advise (AMA)
  2. Identify essential elements for assessing for, communicating and documenting AMA risk and events
  3. Become familiar with fundamental QAPI audit areas for monitoring facility compliance with Discharge requirements.  

Course Content

  • 20 min.: Review of the Discharge Against Medical Advise regulatory requirements
  • 20 min.: Identify and discuss essential elements of assessing for, communication of, and documentation of AMA risk/events
  • 15 min.: Become familiar with QAPI audit areas for monitoring facility compliance with the Discharge requirements
  • 5 min.: Questions and answers

Target Audience:  Nursing Leadership staff (DON, ADON, Unit Managers, Nursing Supervisors)
